Chatham County Fire 2024 Inaugural Year in Review

Since its inception as a county department on July 1, 2024, Chatham County Fire hit the ground running and did not miss a beat in service to the community and the unincorporated residents.  This data was compiled from January 1, 2024, through December 16, 2024. Some of the standout fire response statistics include 266 fire calls for service, 1,910 rescue and medical service incidents, 326 hazardous non fire calls, 616 service calls and 47 severe weather and natural disaster responses.

Medical service response statistics show 861 calls, 13 critical, 184 emergent, 12 non resuscitation efforts, 413 lower acuity and 239 uncategorized or deemed other. The Community Paramedic statistics include 167 Chatham 911 calls, 322 follow-ups, 117 referrals received, 82 individuals transported to an alternate destination and 7 telehealth utilized.

Training is essential to the Chatham County Fire Department. Total training hours for the year were 35, 253. 27,828 At the Company level, 1,474 driver operator, 3786 facility, 1,477 Haz-mat and 558 Company Officer.

Chatham County Fire also developed and trained through the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council Examination the first Flood-Swift Water Rescue Team. The 12-member team endured both a qualification and 40-hour grueling certification course.

The Chatham County Fire Training Division led by Chief Joshua Anderson developed and hosted the first of its kind in the State of Georgia Company Officer Academy. The 50-hour 5-day course graduated members from the Chatham County Fire Department, Bryan County Emergency Services, Liberty County Emergency Services and Pooler Fire-Rescue.

The department also graduated its first recruit class and welcomed 15 new firefighters to the floor. The second Recruit Academy is ongoing and is slated to graduate later this year.

Community engagement and services are provided year-round by the department and saw more than 7,589 community contacts for the year.
