Chatham County Fire Department Strengthens Professional Development with the Start of Its Next Recruit Academy

More than 70 applicants were tested over a three-day period, May 12th through the 14th, for the Chatham County Fire Department Recruit Academy. Interested applicants endured a rigorous Physical Agility Test proctored by Training Coordinator Jonathan Campbell and firefighter John-William Farrell. An in-person interview was also conducted by Training Chief Joshua Anderson, Captain Andrew Ulmer and firefighter Alec Wogoman. This is Chief Joshua Anderson’s 12th recruit class and the second full recruit academy since the department transitioned to Chatham County.

Successful qualifying applicants will undergo a 6-month, 900-hour course beginning June 9, 2025, specializing in fire prevention, suppression, and emergency medical response. Upon graduation, they will become a certified firefighter and guaranteed an entry level position within the department.
