The Chatham County Fire Department is proud to welcome a new group of aspiring young leaders to its Girls Summer Fire Camp, a three-day immersive experience designed to introduce high school girls to the exciting and rewarding world of the fire service.

Now in its second year under the leadership of Training Chief Joshua Anderson, the camp continues to provide participants with hands-on exposure to firefighting, emergency response, teamwork, leadership, and personal development. The program was created to inspire young women to explore careers in public safety while building confidence and learning valuable life skills.

Throughout the three-day camp, participants experienced many of the challenges and responsibilities firefighters face every day. From learning basic firefighting techniques and operating equipment to participating in physical fitness activities and team-building exercises, campers gained a firsthand look at the dedication, discipline, and professionalism required in the fire service.

The success of the camp is made possible through the commitment and mentorship of an outstanding instructional staff. Instructors Mackenzie Jackson, Shalana Roemeling, Ted Lupica, Devin Scott, and Christopher Carter worked closely with campers, sharing their knowledge, experience, and passion for serving the community. Training Coordinator Henry Pham played a key role in organizing and coordinating the program, ensuring a meaningful and engaging experience for all participants.

"The Girls Summer Fire Camp is about more than firefighting," said Training Chief Anderson. "It's about empowering young women, building confidence, and showing them opportunities they may not have previously considered. We want every participant to leave knowing they are capable of achieving great things."

As the camp continues to grow, it reflects the department's commitment to community engagement, workforce development, and creating pathways for future generations of fire service professionals. By providing young women with hands-on experiences and positive role models, Chatham County Fire is helping inspire the next generation of leaders who may one day answer the call to serve.
